Cocoa butter is pressed from cacao beans and composed primarily of stearic, palmitic, and oleic fatty acids. Its structured lipid profile allows it to form a breathable occlusive layer that reduces transepidermal water loss while reinforcing the skin’s protective barrier. Unlike lighter oils, cocoa butter provides substantial cushioning and long-wear protection, making it particularly beneficial for dry, depleted, or environmentally stressed skin.

Beyond simple occlusion, cocoa butter contains minor bioactive compounds and antioxidant constituents that contribute to skin defense. In stress-compromised skin, where barrier integrity is weakened and moisture evaporates more rapidly, cocoa butter helps restore lipid continuity and reduce visible roughness and flaking.
