Propanediol is a naturally derived glycol produced through the fermentation of plant sugars, most commonly corn. It is widely used as a modern alternative to petroleum-derived glycols because it delivers performance with an excellent skin feel and strong tolerability. As a humectant, it helps attract and hold water in the skin, supporting hydration and barrier comfort.
Propanediol also functions as delivery enhancer, helping dissolve and evenly distribute key actives so they perform more effectively on the skin. It improves glide and reduces the sticky finish that can happen in water-based formulas, leaving a smoother, more refined after-feel.
