Tamanu oil is pressed from the nuts of the Calophyllum inophyllum tree, a tropical evergreen native to Southeast Asia, Polynesia, and parts of East Africa. The seeds are traditionally sun-dried before cold pressing, which contributes to the oil’s deep green color and distinctive bioactive profile.

Tamanu is considered a specialty oil because it contains uncommon compounds, including calophyllolide and inophyllums, along with specific fatty acids. Published research supports anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound-healing activity, with calophyllolide studied for its ability to modulate inflammatory pathways and support tissue repair. Tamanu also has a long history of use in Polynesian medicine for burns, scars, and compromised skin, aligning with its modern evidence base.
